New Kingdom
This is a thought came up from one colleague of my GF. I thought of writing it here as I felt this idea is well apposite.
Everyone knows that ancient kings of sri lanka have changed the capital city of this country time to time. Once it was Anuradhapura, then Polonnaruwa and Kandy likewise.
This is the time to change it once again. The new King of this country is born in Hambanthota. And whatever the developments he does, those are also limited to Hambanthota. He builds an international airport there, he builds a commercial port there. He builds a botanical garden there. He will build lot more things there. So he can make ‘Hambanthota’ his capital city and re-locate there. So the people in Colombo can restore their life styles back without stuck in traffic jams for hours when roads are blocked for VIP convoys.

he's gonna extend the railway line to there, he's gonna build a cricket stadium there.......
True say... maybe they should just all exile themselves there and leave the rest of the country alone- I bet that will work out well...

Well. Hambanthota never was the political capital for a reason. Hambanthota (Giruwapththuwa) used to be the commercial Capital and the richest city in Sri Lanka. It was always Sri Lanka’s backup straggly. EVERY SINGLE TIME Sri Lanka was in a trouble, Hambanthota came to rescue. That is why every country keeps political capital and commercial capital in distance. After Keppetipola uprising British realize that and they distort the whole area. Then developed loyal upper class form Jaffna as part of divide-and-rule strategy. (I have nothing against development of Jaffna).
Right now Sri Lanka do not have backup city and we desperately need one. Jaffna or Trinco won’t be a good place because it is too close to subcontinent and it is too vulnerable. In that case Hambanthota is the safest place.
Question is 'what is wrong with Hambantota getting an airport, a cricket Stadium, botanical garden or a harbor?' Are people in Colombo better than people in Hambanthota? Do people in Colombo have all the rights and power to decide what is good and what is not for other areas?
We (people in Colombo) are happy if people in Hambanthota call us ‘Mahaththaya’. We like to go to Hambanthota for vacation and enjoy the village life. I understand the threatening feeling when some other area start to develop and we (people in Colombo) start to loose the states (given to us by British).
Indeed Mahinda trying to keep his mark in his area. Indeed there is corruption. But that is a totally deferent topic. No need to cut off the nose when get mad at the face.
Yes indeed...he is establishing his kingdon there... Lets hope he shifts his house there as well so that we can live in peace...
