What a Geek is?

Found these interesting explanations from yahoo definitions.

  • An intellectual who is bent on a particular profession; especially within the computer feild. Social interests are deeply rooted in Sci-Fi.

  • One who eats (computer) bugs for a living.

  • A person who is inordinately dedicated to and involved with the technology to the point of sometimes not appearing to be like the rest of the humans.

  • Someone whose fascination for technology overwhelms all other pursuits, with all the negative stereotypes this implies.

Moved to Windows Live Mail desktop

Even though Microsoft Oulook is the most convenient email client I have came across, I have to use something else in addition to outlook, since the system guys at my new office are worried about keeping extra mail accounts inside outlook. So my solution was the good old Mozilla Thunderbid till I installed Windows Live Mail desktop today. Windows Live Mail desktop is a good substitute for any outlook fans. And its free for download and use.

It also comes with RSS feed support (thunderbird had this from ages and outlook incorporated this to outlook 2007) and an online storage space of 2,000,000,000 bytes.

Heaven and Hell of a Programmer

Programming or the software engineering is a profession bound with a passion and it is something that makes a sense of satisfaction or accomplishment. And this passion or the enthusiasm is something that naturally originated inside. What you work on becomes your hobby. Not every other profession in this world is like this, there is very limited number of such careers. But when it comes to someone forces you to work on something that you don’t want to work at all, then this profession becomes a real annoyance rather than a heaven.

Day Outing @ Kaluaggala

We (my batch mates*) planned to go for white water rafting at Kithulgala last week following a hint given my Mr.Spider. But the plans got changed and we went to Leisure World at Kaluaggala, Seethawaka last Friday. I suppose this is the only one place in Sri Lanka of it’s kind and is perfectly ok for a day outing.

Here are some of the snaps taken but we missed to take our cam to the wet zone, which is the best part of the place.

* - need to mention specifically that not only batch mates, their fiancés too were participated. (I found guilty for not mentioning this at an earlier time). The crowd consisted of Me, My F, Asela, Asela’s F, Hansaka, Hansaka’s F, Chanaka, Pula, Bassa and Pradeep.

Everyday Fools...

After working for exhausted thirteen hours continuously, I left the office around 2100 hours last Wednesday with the mind of go home quickly and take a long sleep. As I got in to road with my colleague Ruki, we noticed that the Galle Road was closed and no busses were moving to either side.

The reason behind was a big gala to celebrate a political marriage. Deputy Minister of ports and aviation Duminda Dissanayke (Son of the North-Central Province Chief Minister Bertie Premalal Dissanayake) got married to the eldest daughter of Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Forestry, D M Jayarathne.

The road starting from hilton was the car park of the guests and weekend newspapers has reported that a squad of more than 3000 armed forces were allotted on that night for the security. They have further reported how the ministers were drunken and danced at the galleface green. See how we let our political jack a**e* enjoy their selves with rock and rolls by spending national treasure, resources and importantly valuable time of ours…
