Hacking Charges

Spent the whole day at the Slave Island magistrate courts. My colleague caught by CID this morning against an email hacking offense and took him to the well-known 4th floor for investigations. (Yes, it now happens inside Sri Lanka too). I had to bond my self to bailout him [case no: cid b 4150/05]. Guys be cautious....!

Microsoft's Linux-related patents rejected

The U.S. Patent Office has rejected two Microsoft patents over the FAT file format, but the software maker said that it's not ready to give up its battle to protect its widely used method for storing data.

The rejections come after a re-examination of the patents was sought by the Public Patent Foundation, which argued that they were invalid because there was "prior art," that is, evidence that others had done similar work before Microsoft's patent application. A U.S. Patent Office examiner issued a preliminary rejection of one Microsoft patent in September 2004.

Though developed for Windows, the FAT format has become a common means of storing files on all manner of computers, as well as on removable flash memory cards used in digital cameras and other devices. It is also used by the open-source Samba software that lets Linux and Unix computers exchange data with Windows computers, and by Linux itself to read and write files on Windows hard drives.

Sun and Google going to wed

Sun Microsystems and Google plan to announce a collaborative effort that some analysts speculate could elevate the profile of the OpenOffice.org and Java software packages.

Details won't emerge publicly until Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Sun CEO Scott McNealy take the stage at a news conference. But one strong possibility is a partnership that could help shift personal computing out of Microsoft's domain and into Google's.

The all new Mission

I thought of buying the book ‘Head First Java’. And when I was looking around the web last Friday for more facts on that, I got to read about K&B’s ‘Head First Servlets & JSP’, Wooo Hooo …, it gave me a new unforeseen mission, SCWCD. They have written this targeting the SCWCD exam, so why should I waste time holding my SCJP.

I bought the book on Saturday and I was awoken till 2 AM reading the book. It follows a wonderful methodology of teaching, to which they refer “Head First”. Think of a person smiling while studying an IT jargons book, that’s what u’ll experience.

Though the majority is not much encouraging to effort on java, I appreciate the guidance given by Prasanna.
